Police Recover Machine Guns and Explosives After Arresting the Commander of Gunmen in Police Attacks
The Flying Squad and Crime Intelligence Squads, in close coordination with the territorial teams in Masaka City, have successfully dismantled another terror cell in Nyendo-Masaka.
According to police statement released today December 25th, the ring leader was arrested and an assortment of exhibits were recovered from their hideout in Kyalugo Village, Bugambira Parish, Nyendo Mukungwe Division in Masaka City.
The tangible exhibits included 1 PK Machine gun, 7 SMGs, 1 pistol, and explosives.
This is the third successful counter terror operation within two weeks, following the earlier ones conducted in Maganjo and Matugga.
According to the police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, so far, 3 highly linked ADF suspects have been arrested, two killed during the counter-strike in Matugga, 1 PK Machine gun, 9 guns, and an assortment of other exhibits have been recovered.
Enanga reveals that the task team was able to build on the intelligence they obtained from earlier ADF suspects who were arrested and managed to track down Katende Ali alias Mao, an ADF commander of the Nyendo cell in Masaka City.
He added that further investigations revealed that he was part of the group that attacked Busika Police Station on October 31, 2022, resulting in the deaths of three police officers: D/IP Bagaluka Alex, PC Ongol Moses, and PC Odama Stephen.
Additionally, the suspects were also responsible for the attack and murder of two civilians, Kalyango Ibra and Nsubuga Peter, at Kasule Ayanguwa village in Budde Sub County in Butambala district.
Police say that they have gathered information regarding the identities and descriptions of the other ADF remnants who are still at large. These remnants were attempting to rebuild and create operational cells in Wakiso District and Masaka city.
Fred Enanga has reassured all Ugandans that the counter terror operations are still active and ongoing. Saying that these operations are designed to prevent, disrupt, and dismantle terror cells and activities of other hostile groups with violent ideologies.
