BOBI WINE’S MBARARA VISIT: Authorities Shut Down Radio Interview as Bobi Wine Makes Grand Entry in Western Uganda
MBARARA, Uganda – A scheduled radio appearance by National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi, better known as Bobi Wine, was abruptly cancelled earlier today in Mbarara. Authorities apparently shut down the interview just as Kyagulanyi arrived at the studio.
The popular opposition leader travelled to Mbarara to open new NUP offices and host a rally. He was slated for a 12 PM interview at Endigyito Radio to discuss his visit.
Although police cleared the way for Kyagulanyi to reach the station, listeners reported the live broadcast went silent the moment he entered the studio.
“I wanted to listen to Bobi on radio but when I tuned in, there was no sound coming which means it has been switched off,” said local resident Moses Katusiime.
The reasons behind cutting the broadcast short remain unclear. However, the incident underscores the challenges faced by opposition figures in getting their message out in Uganda.
While in Mbarara, Kyagulanyi did manage to meet and greet supporters even though the radio appearance did not transpire as planned. Authorities continue grappling with Uganda’s polarized political climate ahead of upcoming elections.
