Museveni Promotes Somalia War Hero Maj Gen Sam Okiding to A New Rank, Appointed ATMIS Force Commander.
President Museveni has Commander in Chief of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces has appointed and promoted Maj Gen Sam Okiding to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed him Force Commander African Union Transition Mission in Somalia. (ATMIS)
In a statement issued deputy army spokesperson Col Deo Akiiki, confirms his promotion and appointment and Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs plus the UPDF fraternity congratulated him upon his well-deserved promotion and appointment.
Okiding, previously served as the Commander Field Artillery Division in Masindi, and as UPDF Deputy Commander Land Forces.
While at the rank of Brigadier, Okiding led Uganda Sector 1 in deadly battles against Al Shabaab militants in Somalia.
Most of the military successes in Somalia in 2016 were attributed to his active combat operations
