Nwoya District Leadership and RDC Secretariat Review Key Development Milestones

Nwoya, Uganda – The leadership of Nwoya District, in collaboration with the Resident District Commissioners (RDC) Secretariat, convened a high-level engagement to review the district’s progress in service delivery, infrastructure, and economic empowerment. The meeting, led by Maj. Martha Asiimwe, Head of the RDC Secretariat, and her Deputy, Dr. Str. Akiror MaryGrace, highlighted significant achievements and ongoing initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods in the district.

Agriculture and Economic Growth

A major highlight of the discussions was the UGIFT small-scale irrigation program, which has significantly boosted local agriculture. Farmers in Nwoya have benefited immensely from improved irrigation systems, increasing productivity and food security. The district’s agricultural engineer was commended for exceptional work, despite minor challenges related to documentation.

Additionally, the integration of the Parish Development Model (PDM) and the Emyoka program has provided local producers with access to larger markets. A particularly promising initiative is the planned export of tomatoes and vegetables to South Sudan, positioning Nwoya as a key player in cross-border trade and economic growth.

Infrastructure Development

The district’s commitment to infrastructure improvement was also recognized, particularly the 400 million shilling investment in roads, which has enhanced accessibility and mobility for residents. The leadership reaffirmed their dedication to expanding community access roads, ensuring that rural areas benefit from better connectivity.

Education and Healthcare Advancements

Education and health services remain a priority for Nwoya District. Reports indicated that UGIFT-funded projects, including school and health center upgrades, have reached 80% completion. These improvements are expected to significantly enhance service delivery, contributing to better learning environments and healthcare access for residents.

Call for Collaboration and Unity

During the engagement, Dr. Akiror emphasized the importance of teamwork, accountability, and responsibility in driving sustainable development. She urged stakeholders to take ownership of their roles and work collectively to advance the district’s progress.

Maj. Asiimwe reinforced this message, stating that unity, cooperation, and respect are essential in ensuring effective service delivery. “Together, we can achieve great things,” she remarked, stressing the need for trust and collaboration among leaders and the community.
