KIU SET TO COMMISION MULTIBILLION HEALTH FACILITY IN ISHAKA DISTRICT AS IT CLOCKS 25 YEARS IN EXISTANCE
As part of the university’s strategic expansion drive, Kampala International University will launch ultra-modern health facility in Ishaka District to provide cutting edge health services for the ailing population
KIU Chairman Alhaji Hassan Basajjabalaba says as we look back with gratitude and a renewed resolve of keeping our motto of exploring the Heights,“We shall launch ultra-modern health facility that will treat neurological diseases and the biggest state of the art library in Ishaka District,”Basajjabala said.
In 2001 we were inspired by the dream of making a significant contribution to the transformation of higher education on the African continent.This inspiration led to the establishment of Kampala international university a premier institution of international repute thatg prepares students for the world of work and for inclusive society.
Throught the years the university has stayed true to its mission statement: to respond to societal needs by designing and delivering an education guided by the principles and values of respect for society, economy an environment.
KIU was the first among the private universities in Uganda and the entire East Africa region to establish amedical school in 2002 at its western campus located in Ishaka Bushenyi District.
Kiu has since grown to become the largest ,best equipped ,best staffed and most hands on medical school in Uganda.since 2009,KIU has graduated hundreds of doctors from various countries including Uganda,Nigeria,
Kampala International University (KIU) is a private, not-for-profit institution based in Uganda. It was established in 2001 and assumed chartered status in 2009.
In pursuit of the dream to raise the next generation of problem solvers for the East African region and indeed the whole of Africa, the University operates a multi-campus system which consists of two campuses in Uganda (The Main campus in Kampala and the Western Campus in Ishaka-Bushenyi); one other university in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
The University which started as a typical degree-awarding institution has now grown into the number one Private University in Uganda and is currently ranked 2nd in Uganda and 4th in East Africa according to the latest 2024 Webometric Ranking.
It is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Association of Africa Universities as well as the Inter University-Council of East Africa. The University offers a variety of programmes in Health Sciences, Science and Technology, Engineering, Business and Management, Law, Humanities and Education.
As of February 2025, Kampala University (KU) has graduated over 35,000 students.
Kampala International University has been ranked among the top 100 universities in Africa alongside 9 other East African Universities and only Makerere University in Uganda in the uniRank University ranking.
KIU was ranked number 64 in the recently released university ranking which is aimed atproviding a non-academic League Table of top universities in Africa based on valid, unbiased and non-influenceable web metrics provided by independent web resources rather than data submitted by universities themselves.
The other universities ranked among the top 100 are the University of Nairobi, Makerere University, Kenyatta University, University of Dar-es-salaam, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture, Egerton University, University of Rwanda, Moi University and Sokoine University of Agriculture.
According to the uniRank University Ranking website, “the aim of the ranking is to provide an approximate global ranking of world Universities and Colleges based upon their web presence and popularity in terms of estimated traffic, trust/authority and quality link popularity.”
“This is especially intended to help international students and academic staff to understand how popular a specific higher education institution is in a foreign country,” it adds.
The rankings consider the level of attendance at the university site, the number of active pages, performance metrics of flow, number of unique visitors and the number of page views on the university website from mobile devices and PC users.
KIU’s journey to the elite group of universities in Africa has been a deliberate process envisioned by the Board of Trustees and university management under the stewardship of the Chairman Board of Trustees (CBOT) Dr. Al- Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba.
Over the past 3 years KIU has maintained its position as the best private university in Uganda.
