The Democratic Party (DP) has officially endorsed Henry Kasakya Mubiru as its candidate for the upcoming Kawempe North by-election, setting the stage for a high-stakes political showdown. The announcement was made today by DP president during a press conference at the party’s headquarters on Balintuma Road, Kampala.

Kasakya, a seasoned party loyalist, was unveiled as the DP flag bearer in front of a cheering crowd of supporters. He pledged to prioritize youth empowerment, improved infrastructure, and better service delivery if elected. “This election is not about rewarding individuals; it is about restoring hope and dignity to the people of Kawempe North,” Kasakya declared.

The by-election, scheduled for March 13, 2025, follows the tragic passing of former MP Muhammad Ssegirinya earlier this year. The race has already drawn significant attention, with candidates from the National Unity Platform (NUP), National Resistance Movement (NRM), and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) vying for the seat.
DP President Norbert Mao described the contest as a battle between “brain soldiers” and “foot soldiers,” emphasizing Kasakya’s intellectual approach to politics. “We need leaders who can articulate issues with clarity and fight for the people’s interests in Parliament,” Mao said. “Kasakya is not just a candidate; he is a symbol of DP’s commitment to meaningful change.”
The endorsement ceremony also highlighted the party’s renewed focus on grassroots mobilization and unity. Mutenywa expressed confidence in Kasakya’s ability to reclaim the seat for DP, citing his deep understanding of the constituency’s challenges and his unwavering dedication to the party’s values.
As the campaign season heats up, all eyes are on Kawempe North, a constituency known for its political activism. With Kasakya’s endorsement, DP aims to reassert its influence in Kampala’s political landscape and deliver a victory that could reshape the dynamics of Uganda’s opposition politics.
