‘You Are Worse than Amin’- Bobi Wine Blasts Museveni as He Highlights Regime’s Horrific Crimes.
In a scathing critique of President Yoweri Museveni’s government, the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has drawn parallels between Museveni and the notorious dictator Idi Amin. Bobi Wine accused Museveni of seizing power through an unconstitutional war that claimed many Ugandan lives, questioning his credibility in condemning violent power grabs.

The latest controversy emerged when President Museveni rejected a request to establish an institute in memory of Idi Amin, made by former Obongi West MP Kaps Fungaroo. Fungaroo had sought the Ministry of Education’s consideration for licensing the institution, but Museveni urged his wife, Minister Janet Kataha Museveni, to prevent its implementation. Museveni highlighted the atrocities committed by Amin, underscoring the killings of soldiers, prisoners, and political figures.
Bobi Wine seized the opportunity to criticize Museveni’s regime, alleging that the president himself has engaged in similar actions, including organizing sham elections to maintain his hold on power. He pointed to instances of mass killings, such as the Mukura massacre in 1989, the Kasese massacre in 2016, and the November 2020 killings in Kampala and other parts of Uganda. Bobi Wine also raised concerns about enforced disappearances, accusing Museveni’s regime of continuing the practice of abducting citizens.
Accusing Museveni of destroying state institutions and disregarding the rule of law, Bobi Wine claimed that the president appointed loyal judges, raided courts, and reduced Parliament to a mere puppet. He further alleged that Museveni had undermined universities, the military, police, and government agencies. Bobi Wine accused Museveni of monopolizing economic interests for the benefit of his family and associates, leading to widespread poverty and the collapse of local businesses.
Nepotism, sectarianism, and abuse of power were additional points of contention raised by Bobi Wine. He highlighted the nepotism within Museveni’s government, exemplified by the president addressing his letter to his wife, who serves as the Minister of Education. Bobi Wine expressed disbelief at Museveni’s endorsement of such practices.
Calling for accountability, Bobi Wine demanded an inquiry into Museveni’s own atrocities, challenging the president to reflect on public sentiment and the consistently favorable polls for Idi Amin. While acknowledging Amin’s flaws, Bobi Wine warned Museveni that his future actions would shape his legacy and offered him a chance to redeem himself and change course.
The allegations made by Bobi Wine have ignited a fierce political debate in Uganda, with supporters of both sides expressing their opinions on social media and through public demonstrations. As the nation watches, the question of accountability and the path forward for Uganda’s leadership remains at the forefront of political discourse.

The irony!
Dictator Museveni castigates Idi Amin for taking over power unconstitutionally.
Of course the hypocrite in him hasn't forgotten that he himself seized power unconstitutionally after leading a war that killed close to a million of our people! Since then, he has… pic.twitter.com/1Mn3RNbC1N
