Fiery Clash in Ugandan Parliament as MP Calls for Probe into General’s Past Attack.
KAMPALA – Chaos erupted in the Ugandan Parliament this week as opposition MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda called for an investigation into an altercation between General Katumba Wamala and fellow MP Francis Zaake.

The heated exchange came as Zaake faces scrutiny by the parliamentary disciplinary committee for allegedly making derogatory remarks towards MP Juliet Kyinyamatama.
Ssemujju argued that if Zaake is under investigation, then Katumba should also face scrutiny for physically assaulting Zaake during a brawl over the controversial age limit bill in 2017.
“If we are addressing issues of causing harm to one another, we have a General here who nearly killed Zaake,” Ssemujju told Parliament.
Viral video shows Katumba and Zaake in a physical tussle five years ago, though the General denies throwing punches.
The deputy speaker was forced to adjourn parliament after an attempt by some MPs to attack Zaake over his alleged comments about Kyinyamatama.
Opposition lawmakers formed a protective barrier around Zaake as he left the chambers, narrowly escaping another clash with angry female MPs.

This latest disciplinary referral is the third for the firebrand Zaake, who was injured in the 2017 parliament melee and previously punished for social media criticism of the Speaker.
The chaotic scenes highlight deep political divisions that continue to plague the East African nation.
