THIS IS SERIOUS: MP Ssemujju Nganda to Quit FDC Over Alleged Leadership Corruption

In a dramatic turn of events, Kira Municipality Member of Parliament, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, has threatened to leave the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) if the party does not implement much-needed reforms. Nganda has been vocal in his criticism of the party’s top leadership, accusing them of corruption and incompetence.

Nganda has recently been in the spotlight, exposing what he sees as the corrupt actions of the FDC leadership, namely party president Patrick Amuriat and secretary general, Nathan Nandala Mafabi. He alleges that they have introduced unaccounted-for funds into the party, a move which he refers to as bringing in “dirty money”. When questioned, both Amuriat and Mafabi have declined to reveal the source of these funds.

Additionally, Nganda has accused the FDC leadership at Najjanankumbi of plotting to undermine the opposition party’s mission by aligning with President Yoweri Museveni. “If those who have captured it want to take it to Museveni, I wish them well,” he told NBS Television, hinting at his readiness to leave the party.

Nganda voiced his concerns over the FDC abandoning its founding principles, stating he sees no reason to remain with a party that seems to have lost its democratic focus. “If FDC is no longer a forum for democratic change, really, what business do I have with it?” Nganda questioned.

These developments come in the wake of the FDC’s decision to dismiss Nganda from his position of party chief whip, replacing him with Yusuf Nsibambi, Mawokota South MP. This decision followed a public fallout between Nganda and the Najjanankumbi faction, stemming from his allegations that Mafabi and Amuriat had been receiving ‘suspicious money’ from Museveni.

In a countermove, Mafabi dismissed Nganda’s accusations as false, hinting that Nganda himself might be the one benefiting from the ruling government. He pointedly questioned the source of Nganda’s ‘expensive’ campaign funds, suggesting that Nganda perhaps needed to examine his own practices before casting aspersions on others.

Mafabi also accused Nganda of conspiring with the party’s founding leader, Dr. Kiiza Besigye, to seize control of the party for their own personal gain.

As this political drama continues to unfold, the future of the FDC and its leadership remains uncertain. One thing is clear, however: if substantial reforms are not implemented soon, the party risks losing one of its most vocal and influential members.
