Deadly Accident Claims Four Lives in Kassanda District along Mubende-Mityana Highway

Kassanda District, Uganda – In a tragic incident that occurred early morning on August 13, 2023, four individuals lost their lives and three sustained injuries in a fatal accident at Myanzi Trading Centre in Kassanda District along the Mubende-Mityana highway.

According to the Territorial Police in Kassanda, preliminary investigations indicate that a black Fuso Fighter motor vehicle, registered as UAY 415C, loaded with matooke and traveling towards Kampala from Mubende experienced a brake failure. As a result, the vehicle lost control and overturned, instantly claiming the lives of four occupants and injuring three others.

At present, the identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed. The injured individuals have been identified as Nambusi Grace, 40 years old, from Kikajo, Namasuba, Wakiso District; Bright Patrick, 34 years old, a business person residing in Kibiri-Busabaala, Wakiso District; and Nadunga Lydia, 42 years old, a businesswoman residing in Kalerwe. The injured victims have been transported to Mityana Hospital for necessary medical care.

The scene of the accident has been thoroughly documented and examined by the police. The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to Kassanda Health Center IV mortuary, awaiting postmortem examinations. Furthermore, the motor vehicle involved in the accident has been towed to Myanzi Police Station for an Inspection of Vehicles (IOV) assessment.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the utmost importance of responsible driving. The police urge drivers not only to operate their vehicles prudently but also to ensure the maintenance and functionality of critical systems such as brakes before commencing their journeys. Safety should be prioritized not only by drivers themselves but also for the well-being of their passengers and fellow road users.

SP Kawala Racheal, the Police spokesperson for Wamala Region, expressed condolences to the victims’ families during this difficult time. The police are committed to ensuring road safety and will continue to enforce regulations to prevent such incidents in the future.
