RDC and DPC Arrested for Failing to Act on Criminal Activities during Bukedea District By-Elections

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has arrested the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Bukedea, Mr. Wilberforce Tukei and the District Police Commander (DPC), SP Charles Okoto, following intensive investigations into reported criminal activities during the LC V Chairperson by-elections in Bukedea District.

The arrests were made as a result of the RDC and DPC’s failure to act on rampant acts of intimidation and assault of some candidates, polling agents, journalists, and voters before, during, and after the elections.

As the head of the District Security Committee, the RDC plays an oversight role of government activities/programs in the district. He also coordinates all other government departmental heads and engages on any emergency that has come up. During election time, the RDC coordinates and ensures a smooth transition, which did not happen in this case.

In addition to the RDC and DPC, six other individuals have been arrested, including D/ASP Ehguloiti Alex, PC Akankwasa Onesmus, D/C Oriokot Simon Peter, PC Kamakoin Difas, PC Born Naibei, and Malinga Dan.
