Kisoro district’s local leaders and inhabitants are urging President Museveni to appoint General Kale Kayihura, the former Inspector General of Police, to a ministerial post following his retirement.
This call comes after the president approved retirement for 11 General and Senior Officers, including Kayihura, from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF). Kayihura, who hails from Kanabukunga village in Nyakabande sub-county, Kisoro district, is set to retire on August 31, 2023.
The residents contend that a ministerial position would be a fitting reward for his diligent service to the country as a top police officer. According to one of the leaders who spoke to KFM, Gen Kayihura is credited with building the police force’s structures and improving the training and discipline of police officers under his command.
They note that officers who were trained during Kayihura’s tenure are distinct from those who were recruited after his term. Meanwhile, Gen Kayihura’s family members attest that during his tenure, their son prioritized national service over his family and worked hard.
