Speaker of Parliament mourns the death of a Serere County MP as condolences pour in

According to police statement, the accident happened today 19th December 2022, at around 7am, at Naboa Town Council along the Mbale-Tirinyi Road.

The accident involved a motor vehicle with registration number UBK 995F and an Isuzu box body with registration number KCX 071K, resulting in one person being killed on the spot. Police confirmed that Hon. Okabe Patrick, the Member of Parliament of Serere County, has passed away

The speaker of Uganda parliament Anita Annet Among has mourned the demise of Serere County legislator and his wife asking the public to stand with the family during this difficult moment.

It is with great pain that I announce the passing on of our colleague, brother and member of Uganda parliamentfor Serere County Hon. Patrick Okabe and his wife in a road accident this morning. I ask us all to stand with the family during this difficult moment! May his soul RIP. Speaker twitted.

Deputy speaker Thomas Tayebwa has described the fallen MP as A true voice of reason, an author, a passionate believer in the Almighty and Peace Maker, adding that he has met his death at a time when he was needed most

Leader of opposition Mathias Mpuuga has also dropped in his condolences to the people Serere County and the family members of the Hon Patrick Okabe & his wife.

Sad to learn about the demise of Hon Patrick Okabe & his wife who perished in a motor accident at Naboa near Mbale! Condolences to the people of Serere whom he’s been representing in parliament. Mpuuga posted.

His wife, Christine Okabe, also succumbed to her injuries while en route to the hospital. The driver, identified only as Jacob, remains in critical condition at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.

The cause of the accident has been attributed to the Isuzu box body driver. It is reported that the driver drifted from his side to the side of the Landcruiser that was heading from Mbale to Iganga, resulting in a head-on collision.

The driver of the Fuso box body is currently on the run.
