Morocco has made history by becoming the first African country to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup after defeating Portugal in a thrilling match.
Following Portugal’s shocking loss to Morocco in the 2022 World Cup semi-finals, Cristiano Ronaldo sobbed as he exited the field.
Because of Youssef En-decisive Nesyri’s header at the Al Thumama Stadium, Morocco is the first African country to ever go to the World Cup semi-finals. En-Nesyri struck a header that would have made Ronaldo pleased as the Africans seized the lead.
Portugal put everything at the match, and for the duration of the second half, they had Morocco held back. They only generated a small number of noteworthy opportunities, though, as Pepe blew a wonderful opportunity and Joao Felix saw his shot palmed away.
For Fernando Santos’ team, the great man himself was benched for the second straight game.
In the round of 16, Ronaldo was compelled to watch from the sidelines as his team pounded Switzerland for six goals; this is how he would spend the most of the quarterfinal. In the 51st minute of play, Ronaldo entered the action.
His greatest opportunity came in stoppage time, but the Moroccan defence’s sheer size proved to be too much for the 37-year-old as he failed to make an impact on the game. Ronaldo wept as he exited the field, realizing that his World Cup aspirations were over.
Ronaldo, who is 37 years old, admitted before the competition that Qatar would be his final World Cup.
The megastar has never appeared in the World Cup final, much less won the championship. Prior to the football festival, Ronaldo told Piers Morgan: “It’s tough to tell right now because, frankly, my mood is right now toward the World Cup.
“This is obviously my fifth World Cup, and it’s probably my last. I have no idea what will happen after the World Cup, but as I have already said and will do so again, the supporters will always have a special place in my heart.
In the meantime, Morocco has become the first African nation to advance to the World Cup’s semi-finals in its almost 100-year existence.
In Qatar, the North African team previously defeated Spain, and now they may add Portugal to their list of victories. The winner of England’s match against France will now play Morocco in the semi-final.
