JUST IN: UPDF announces new changes from Museveni

President Yoweri Museveni has today December 7 2022, made sweeping changes to the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF).

Maj Gen Francis Takirwa was appointed acting deputy commander of the air force on Wednesday, replacing Brig Stephen Kiggundu, who had only been in the role for one month since his appointment in November.

The president also appointed Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, Uganda’s delegate to the South Sudan Peace Monitoring Mechanism, as acting chief of staff land forces in the UPDF in the same message.

Brig Bob Ogiki held the position until today, when he was promoted to Major General and assigned to the UPDF’s second infantry division in Mbarara as commander.

Maj Gen Ogiki will succeed Maj Gen Takirwa as deputy air force commander.

“The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, as well as the UPDF fraternity, congratulate the general officers on their well-deserved promotions and appointments,” said Col Deo Akiiki, the defence spokesperson, in a statement issued Wednesday afternoon.
