CONFIRMED: NUP Candidate Wins Makerere Guild Polls

The National Unity Platform’s candidate for Makerere University’s Guild President has won the Guild elections, according to the results released by the university’s Electoral Commission.

This is a major victory for the NUP, which has been gaining momentum in Uganda’s political landscape in recent years

The NUP’s candidate, Alionzi Lawrence Dangote, won with a total of 5839 votes, while his closest rival, the NRM candidate Ibra Hussein, received 2079 votes.

On November 30, students of Makerere University held the first-ever virtual election to elect their new leaders.

This day will always be remembered by Alionzi Lawrence Dangote, the winner who will serve as the 88th Guild president.

This is a significant victory for the NUP and its candidate, and it is sure to boost the party’s popularity even further in the lead-up to Uganda’s next general election.

A total of eight candidates were duly nominated for the 88th guild election at the university. Among those who were nominated were Ibra Hussein, Edward Nalwangu, Honesty Natumanya, Ronald Mugisha, Carlton Muyinda, Blessious Namirembe, and Justus Tukamushaba.

Following the unfortunate death of a UCU student during the campaign clashes between FDC and NUP supporters, the university council resolved that the future elections be held using digital platforms to avoid fatalities and injuries associated with the electoral violence.

It is the fourth consecutive year that the National Unity Platform (NUP) has won the top seats at Makerere University.

As a member of the same political party, he succeeded Shamim Nambassa.
